Some times ago in August 2017, I visited Kalibiru in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is exactly located in Kulon Progo district, just west of Yogyakarta city. This place mainly offers photo spots to take a picture of beautiful scenery of Kulon Progo from height. I recommend Kalibiru if you are a photo or selfie lover. However this place might be overcrowded if you are here to relax and enjoy the fascinating scenery.
I have visited Kalibiru once before this. When I first visited, Kalibiru was newly opened and literally there was no visitor other than my group. The track was still all dirt and the place was pretty much just like a small forest (with a nice scenery) at the edge of a cliff. But then through the year I kept hearing good reviews about the place from my friends, which I was very surprised. Therefore I decided to give it a second visit. And damnnnn they were rightttt. Even I did not recognise the place as it became so much larger and tidier. Just like most of tourist destinations in Yogyakarta which are fast growing, Kalibiru also developed very rapidly.
However, the route to reach Kalibiru was still hard with the steep winding road and sharp turn, especially at the road before the entrance. After passing the entrance, we entered the parking area. There were many parking area available. They were spread out through the main road and they were named in alphabetic order (on my first visit, there used to be only one small parking space right in front of the attraction :") ). From the parking area we had to walk uphill to the ticketing. However if you are too lazy to walk, there are many motorbike taxi (it's called ojek in Indonesia) that would give you a ride to the ticketing.
I don't remember how much was the entrance ticket, but once inside, you have to buy another ticket if you want to take a picture at photo spots. There were many photo spots to choose and the price ranged from IDR10.000-35.000/persons. The photo spots were placed in a high platform and the view to the beautiful scenery behind were clear from any blocking tree branches etc. However on my visit the queue for each photo spots were super long. And when I say super long then yes it means super longgg 3 hours of queue only for a nice picture to upload to instagram. Therefore I should be happy with pictures I took outside the photo spots. No queue and they turned out great too! Besides it saved money for a budget traveler like me. ;)
I asked one of the employee whether the queue is always long like that and he said that yes it is always been like that, especially on weekend and holiday. It is recommended to go there early in the morning to avoid the queue.
Other than the photo spots, there were also some small food stalls if you just want to sit and enjoy the scenery with a glass of hot tea.
So, are you planning to go to Kalibiru? Or have you ever been to Kalibiru? Feel free to share your experience in the comment section below! :)
